Missions teams of up to 16 people at a time are encouraged to come and partner with our Haitian brothers and sisters in ministry. HOM recommends that teams not exceed this number due to logistical arrangements. Team participants should be at least 16 years old and in good health. Typically teams stay a week and come prepared to finance their ministry while in Haiti. For example, if you are doing construction you bring enough money to cover the cost of your construction project, which would include materials, transportation, translators, food and lodging, water, cost of fuel if you are using a generator, etc. Due to the earthquake, teams should be prepared for very spartan accommodations. The second floor of the vocational school in Blanchard has been equipped to house teams due to the destruction of many of the guest houses and hotels in PAP. This is dormitory-style lodging with bunk beds, several bathrooms with showers, and includes breakfast and dinner. Mission teams most needed at this time are medical (serving at Repatriote) and construction (service could be inside an HOM compound or outside repairing and building homes in the surrounding communities). However, as a new normal emerges in Haiti there will still be a need for teams to provide VBS, teacher training and retreats. A very detailed Mission Team Handbook has been prepared to assist teams. It is imperative that team leaders follow the guidelines given in the team handbook.
