Life
expectancy in Haiti 51 years. Life expectancy, quality,
and the capacity to work for their own betterment is improved
through the vitamins, prescriptions, medical treatments, and
immunizations provided during the medical team visits. Consider
being part of one of these teams. Rosters are developed
approximately 6 months prior to the visits in order to support
planning and procurement of materials. Both medical personnel and
lay persons are needed for these trips. There is still room in the
schedule for another medical mission if you hear the call! A team
with some background in preventative medicine would be a blessing! |
 |
Medical
teams are typically comprised of several nurses and paramedics to
perform triage and screen patients for a particular doctor.
Physicians include ob/gyn, emergency room, pediatric, and others, as
well as dentists. Non-medical persons perform valuable service
assisting in the pharmacy and other support areas. Used eyeglasses
are fitted to patients who otherwise would have no opportunity for
vision correction.

| If
you are unable to make a team trip, but wish to help in the effort,
there is always a need for persons to underwrite the costs of
medical supplies and the cargo charges for getting the suppliers to
Haiti (the amounts usually well exceed the amount of personal
luggage/cargo which a traveler can check through on an airplane. |

| Non-medical
teams:
Short term mission trips change your life. Not only do you give of yourself, but you are richly rewarded in friendships and spiritual growth as you work in God’s Creation in ways you have never imagined. What can you do?

Vacation Bible School. Take a team of adults and youths to conduct a one week increment of VBS. You prepare by putting together
children's’ Bible studies, crafts, recreational games, snacks, and music, then traveling to Haiti to actually work with Haitian translators and scores of eager,
bright eyed children. You can make a difference in their lives! |

Facilities repairs and furniture construction. There is an ongoing need to build furniture for the schools, churches and clinics. We have basic designs which can be worked by virtually any team. As well, there are always repairs needed at each of the sites. A mini-team of a handful of
handymen and women, or a larger one, able to divide into work teams at multiple sites can accomplish great things, particularly when you multiply your efforts with Haitian craftsmen.

Facilities and home construction. The various building projects are always in need of teams who can work on framing, wiring, masonry and plumbing.

Gardening
. We began in December 2003 with the planting of almond trees
in the courtyard at the Cite Soleil school. We hope to
continue to plant trees there and at the other sites, plus plant
trees at new homes as Cite Soleil residents work their way up.
You can obtain trees and compost at Haitian nurseries and help
restore the environment. |
